Yuan Lai is a Ph.D. Candidate in urban systems and informatics at New York University (NYU), with minors in Data Science and Construction Management. He is a research affiliate of Civic Analytics Program at the NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management. His research focuses on the intersection of data science, urban systems, and smart city development.
Prior to NYU, Yuan practiced as an architect/urban designer in Sadie Architects with Moshe Safdie. He has been involved in large-scale mixed-use development planning and design in China, USA, Israel, Singapore, and Turkey. He is a Forefront Fellow with Urban Design Forum, a Data Science Immersion Fellow with Bloomberg, and an Accredited Professional of Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design by U.S. Green Building Council. He serves as a referee for leading research journals including PLOS One, Landscape and Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Sustainable Cities and Society, and International Journal of Health Geographics.
Yuan holds MS in applied urban science and informatics from NYU Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP), a Master’s in urban planning from SUNY Buffalo, and a Bachelor’s in Landscape Architecture with a minor in law.
