Yuan Lai is a Ph.D. candidate in urban systems and informatics at New York University Department of Civil and Urban Engineering. His research focuses on a combination of data science, urban systems, and city development. He has a master’s in applied urban science and informatics from NYU Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP).
Yuan also holds a master’s degree in urban planning from University of New York at Buffalo and a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, a minor in law from Beijing Forestry University. He is an Accredited Professional of Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design by U.S. Green Building Council and a Forefront Fellow at Urban Design Forum.
Prior to NYU, Yuan practiced as an architect/urban designer in Sadie Architects with Moshe Safdie. He has been involved in multiple large-scale mixed-use development planning and design located in China, USA, Israel, Singapore, and Turkey. Yuan serves as a reviewer for multiple research journals on urban topics including Urban Studies and International Journal of Health Geographics.
